Project timeline

First year (2020): Data preparations (e.g in Mozambique). Data quality assessment and evaluation of historical trends and teleconnections. Compare local data with available data products used in previous reports (e.g. CHIRPS used by USAID). We will set up a project website (based on WordPress) to share and disseminate information and progress. A GitHub repository will be set up for sharing code. The project partners will share information about available results and progress in regional climate modelling and monitoring. We will plan a workshop to bring the partners together for sharing knowledge and coordinating future work.

Second year (2021): ESD applied to reanalysis as well as multi-model ensembles for future projections. Study of trends and  teleconnection and scale dependencies in observations and within RCM results.

Third year (2022): The project partners will share information about available results from ESD and RCM simulations, and efforts will go into combining and comparing the results and reporting on the findings. We will also work on writing scientific papers to document the findings.

Subsequent years 3-5 (2022-2024): Activities depend on the progress from the previous years, the availability of CMIP6 simulations, and potential synergies with projects like e.g. GEWEX. We will also consider extending the ESD to seasonal forecasting, using model output statistics (MOS) rather than the traditional ESD. We will plan further workshops and video conferences to follow up the progress.
